Simply “like” American Airlines on Facebook, and the miles will post within a couple of days. You can get lucky, and even if you don’t, it will extend the expiration date of your miles.

New American Airlines Offer From Citi
The last offer just ended, but a new one for 75,000 American Airlines Aadvantage miles has popped up, this time with a requirement of $4,000 spend in six months. The annual fee is waived for the first year, so cancel before a year is up.

Time to Start This Up Again
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything here. I became a bit busy while working on my Germany trip report back in March, and never had the chance to catch up. As a result, I ended up abandoning this blog.
In the meantime, I’ve had a number of domestic trips, including my last “creative” routing on UA – a DTW-ORD-IAH-DEN-SFO that netted me almost 1000 more miles than the normal DTW-ORD-SFO would have. Since then, United has tightened up their routing rules and these kinds of routings are no longer possible without paying a premium for it. Other trips include another Asia trip including Japan and Singapore, Australia, and a fantastic VDB off of SFO-IAD that not only earned me some vouchers, but also gave me additional miles and a transcon upgrade that I would otherwise never have cleared.
Sitting at about 59,000 miles for this year on United, it’s looking like it won’t be worthwhile to make another run for 1K status. Even with about $1000 in ecerts and vouchers, I’ve decided to save them for next year. Right now, I have three trips booked for about 15,000 miles in 2011. With anticipated work travel and the rest of my vouchers, I expect to be able to cross 50,000 miles without much personal spend. With any luck, I may end up trying to push for 1K again in 2011.
In the meantime, the best credit card offers right now are the American Airlines AAdvantage cards from Citi. One is for 75,000 miles after $1,500 in spend in six months; the other is for 100,000 miles after $10,000 in spend in 12 months.

Citi Churning is Dead
I’ve held out on posting this until it was confirmed, but it seems that about a month ago, Citi AAdvantage card churning has effectively ended. I’m bummed since I had just started and I thought I would have an endless supply of miles so I transferred some miles over to Hilton HHonors to use on my current trip. Had the news broke before I transferred the miles, I would have kept them as I think they have more value as miles in AAdvantage than as points in HHonors. There are still ways to rack up miles/points using various cards, but one has to be a bit more judicious in collecting them.
I’m on a slow internet connection for the next week, but I think I will try to start posting parts of my trip report in the next few days.

More Citi AAdvantage Miles
This time, instead of complaining about the annual fee, I said that I found a card that offers 1.25 miles per dollar (as opposed to the 1 mile per dollar that the AAdvantage card offers), and I was given a no-strings-attached 3000 miles. No minimum spend or activity required. I’ll keep this card open until the miles post.

Denied by CitiBank
I called in today to try to get a retention bonus for my AAdvantage American Express card. I used the same story I used last time: that I found a mileage earning card with a lower annual fee. They transferred me over to retentions, and the only offer I got was to get a $25 statement credit for $500 spent. Maybe I should have done that since I have no other bonuses to clear at the moment, but my mental math failed me, and I thought that my 2% Schwab cash back would be comparable. (It’s not, the $25 for $500 spent is 5%.) In either case, I was looking for miles which I was never offered. I’ll try again with my AAdvantage Visa in a few days when my payment clears.
